Adding Next and Previous Buttons to HTML Help

  1. Download and install FAR.  You can download the program at HelpWare.net.  

    FAR is a shareware program.  You can evaluate it up to eight weeks.  

  2. Open a sample Help project.  A zipped up sample project is available by clicking the link below. Open the file (sample.zip) and extract it to a location on your hard drive.

Open FAR

  1. Choose Start: Programs: Helpware: FAR: FAR.

  2. Click Add Files .

  3. Navigate to the HTML Help project you wish to modify.

  4. Select all files.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Click the HHP Editor button.

  7. Click Open.
    This should open the project file (sample.hhp) for the project.

  8. Under Project Settings, click Compiler and place a check mark next to Create binary TOC.

  9. Under Window Types click Toolbar.

  10. Place a check mark next to Next and Previous.

    Note that both buttons require a binary TOC (created in previous step).

  11. From the Command menu, select Compile Project to CHM.

  12. Click Yes to save changes.

  13. Click Close to close the compiler status message.

  14. Choose Command: View CHM File.

  15. Click the Next and Previous buttons.

  16. Close FAR and Save the File List.
