How to decompile using KeyTools

  1. Download and install KeyTools from Keyworks.net.

  2. Download the sample CHM file decompile.chm and place it in a folder.

  3. Open decompile.CHM (downloaded in the previous step) and examine the settings.
    This help file contains the following characteristics: Two help windows (main & second), browse sequences, ALINK controls, map numbers for context sensitive help and text-only popup topics.
    Also note the size, position, and window settings.

  4. Close the Help file.

Examine the Help file with KeyTools.

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Right click the decompile.chm file and choose Examine.

  3. Note some of the sections:


    The Alias section above is the combined MAP and ALIAS information stored in the original Help project.

  4. Close the CHM/ITS File Viewer.

Convert a CHM to Source

  1. Start KeyTools (Start: Programs: KeyWorks: KeyTools.

  2. Click Decompile.

  3. In Source file choose the decompile.chm file downloaded in the section above.

  4. Change the destination folder to the same location as the CHM folder.

  5. Place a check mark next to Create a project file.

  6. Click OK.
