A new version of multi-file find and replace was introduced with version
RoboHelp Office 9.1 (another reason to download the
latest free version of RoboHelp Office 9.1 from eHelp). Multi-File
Find and Replace contains, among other things, a preview window allowing
you to see the HTML code you are about to modify, and the ability to backup
all modified files.
Stores previous searches. The
drop down list boxes store previous searches, making the replacement of
inline styles very easy.
Backups. The ability to make backup
copies of the pages you have modified, in case things go completely wrong.
If you choose backup, you must manually remove the files with bak
extensions from your project.
The View button opens the current
topic into Windows Explorer.
The Edit button opens the topic
for editing. However,
I discovered that topics consistently opened in FrontPage 2000 (one of
my HTML editors) on my computer regardless of which editor was selected
as RoboHelp's default editor (Tools: Options: HTML Editors).
I would prefer to see a second instance of RoboHelp open.
Click the Tools tab.
Double click the Multi-File
Find and Replace icon.
![]()
The new program opens.
NOTE:
Before attempting to use this program to replace text or HTML code,
close RoboHelp and backup your Help project.
Type
in the word or code you want to search for and replace and click Find Next.

In the example above, I'm searching for inline styles (I commonly use
the Bold button
to emphasize words in topics, then I
replace the specific markups created with a character style called emph. I've found this technique much easier than selecting
a character style from the style list.
