Importing long Microsoft Word documents into RoboHTML has never been a simple task. This month's tip is one of the best techniques to simplify this process.
Let's assume you have a 10 page technical document created in Microsoft Word and it must be converted for use in RoboHTML. Based on the number of headings in the original document you determine that 20 individual HTML Help topics should be produced (one topic per Heading Style 1-3).
The first technique below is an inefficient example of importing a Word document into RoboHTML:
Import the entire Word document directly into RoboHTML. While this technique is possible, it creates one very long HTML file. The resulting HTML document must be split into 20 individual HTML documents. Splitting documents in RoboHTML 8.0 is not easy because the program allows only one open topic at a time (multiple document windows are not supported); imagine trying to split a 300 page HTML file into 600 or more topics -- it would be a nightmare.
Don't import long Word documents directly into RoboHTML. Break the documents up in another program before importing. In this month's tip you learn an efficient technique for handling / preparing long documents prior to importing into RoboHTML using the Microsoft Word Master Document.
